It all started with a friendly chat about daylilies.

One day, while we were sitting in the Breck's office discussing our love of daylilies, someone mentioned a variety that produced more than the usual number of blooms. Within a few minutes, we thought of another one, and then the idea came to us: Why not identify the world's most prolific daylilies and put them together in one spectacular collection?

This unique daylily collection performs like no other!

Like most daylilies, the varieties in our Mountain of Flowers Daylily Collection are winter hardy in zones 3−9 and adapt to nearly any kind of soil—even clay. But while you might expect a couple of hundred blooms from the typical daylily, these produce as many as 16 stalks with dozens of blooms on each stalk—a grand total of up to 500 blooms per plant once they're mature. That's more than twice the blooms you'd get from ordinary daylilies!

This collection includes one each of the following varieties:

  • Scottish Fantasy: Coral-pink petals frame a sunny-yellow and lime-green throat and have a pie-crust edging. Blooms in midsummer and again in late summer to early fall. Grows 28" tall.

  • Bela Lugosi: Large, 6" blooms in rich blue-violet are highlighted with chartreuse throats and white midribs to create a dramatic starburst effect. Blooms in midsummer. Grows 33" tall.

  • Adorable Tiger: This fragrant flower will prey on your senses with its vivid red and yellow petals framed by ruffled edges. Blooms in midsummer. Grows 26" tall.

  • Funny Valentine: Deep red, 5½", trumpet-shaped flower with a green throat attracts butterflies and other pollinators. Blooms in midsummer. Grows to 25–28" tall.

  • Maestro Puccini: Regal rose-purple blooms have a darker purple halo, lemon-lime throat and ruffled petal edges. Blooms in midsummer. Grows 28" tall.

  • Baby Moon Café: Blooms are trumpet shaped and coloured creamy butter with a wine-purple eye, and feature ruffled, recurved petals. Blooms in midsummer and again in late summer to early fall. Grows 22" tall.

  • Collier: A standout in our test gardens, this polychrome variety boasts a beautiful blend of pink, gold, cream and yellow shades. Blooms in midsummer and again in late summer to early fall. Grows 28" tall.
