Create a summer garden fit for royalty with the Prince of Orange Oriental Poppy. Featuring ruffled, bowl shaped orange blooms and ferny foliage, these Dutch-sourced perennials grow 2 to 4 feet high. Hardy and long-lived flowers, they can withstand low temperatures and will rebloom each year. Bright orange petals and dark centres add a vibrant flair to your summer days.
Poppies (Papaver orientale 'prince of orange') flourish climate hardiness zones 3 to 7. They require well-drained soil, but can tolerate clay, sandy and loamy soil as well. The Dutch poppies love areas where they'll have full sun, but you can also place them in areas where they'll receive half sun and half shade. Plant these orange oriental poppy plants in the summer before they bloom, making sure the top of the plant is even with the soil level. For the best results, space them 18 to 24 inches apart.
The grand papaver orientale 'prince of orange' makes an excellent addition to many areas of your landscape. Plant them with salvias and Shasta daisies for a burst of colour in a woodland setting or add them to cutting gardens. Excellent for borders and flower beds, these poppies will add texture and colour throughout your landscape. Enjoy the majestic beauty of the Prince of Orange oriental poppy.
Despite their delicate appearance, Oriental poppies are extremely hardy—to a temperature of -30°F. They do well in almost any soil and tolerate dry spells. While they love the sun, they are not averse to light shade, so they are a great addition to borders and beds in many areas of the garden. Poppies are bothered by almost no pests and are quite deer resistant. Best of all, poppies are extremely long-lived. Plant them this year and you will enjoy their blooms for many seasons to come!
