Add enchantment to your garden with Lily-of-the-Valley. White, bell-shaped, scalloped blooms hang like a row of tiny pendants from the stem. Their sweet, exceptionally rich perfume has made these lovely perennials a longtime favourite of gardeners. Shade-loving and easy to care for, these little beauties add a fairy tale charm to the dim spaces in your landscape.

Plant your Dutch Lily-of-the-Valley (Convallaria 'lily of the valley') in the autumn, covering the roots to about 2 inches deep and placing them 6 to 9 inches apart in well-drained clay, loamy or sandy soil. They thrive in zones 3 through 9, and are easy to maintain. Thriving in full to partial shade, these dainty blossoms naturalize easily and will spread to create a beautiful, fragrant ground cover. They grow quickly and bloom in mid to late spring.

These hardy plants are an excellent choice for shady walkways and beneath trees. Standing only 6 to 8 inches high, they are well-placed in front of other, taller flowers, where their glossy, dark green leaves and white flowers provide a beautiful contrast to both brightly-coloured flowers and delicate pastels. The wee nodding blooms of white lily of the valley have delighted people for centuries. Enjoy their charming presence in your shady spaces.
