Create a riot of brilliant, vivid colour in your garden with Hot Summer Coneflowers. These daisy-like flowers begin their bloom with golden petals tipped in crimson, but, as they age, the plethora of blossoms age to a multitude of warm tones. You'll discover pinks, yellows, fuchsias, reds and oranges all on the same plant, and sometimes on the same bloom. Beginning their vivid display around late summer, these hardy plants bloom well into fall.
Plant your Hot Summer coneflowers (Echinacea 'Hot Summer') in the spring for their colourful autumn performance. Coneflower (Echinacea) plants are extremely low maintenance; drought tolerant, disease- and pest-resistant, they can be planted nearly anywhere. Just place them in well-drained sandy, loamy or clay soil about 18 to 24 inches apart and even with the soil level. These perennials are hardy in zones 4 to 9.
Native North American wildflowers, your Hot Summer coneflowers will naturalize easily and self-sow to fill meadows or slopes over time. Plant them in woodland gardens to attract butterflies and honeybees during the bloom. Their seedpods will attract songbirds to your yard in fall and winter. Add these colourful 32- to 36-inch tall coneflowers to the backs of beds and borders for warm hues to complement dahlias, asters and rudbeckia. Enjoy summer's warmth a little longer with Hot Summer coneflowers.
