Greet the spring with the Gipsy Hyacinth Mixture. A combination of Gipsy Queen and Gipsy Princess hyacinths, this mix features charming pastel blooms in soft apricot and buttery yellow. Named after Hyakinthos, a character from Greek mythology who was loved by Apollo, god of the sun, the hyacinth (Hyacinth orientalis) is a favorite early spring perennial, blooming in a dense spike of star-shaped flowers. Prized as much for its alluring fragrance as for its beauty, the hyacinth is often associated with rebirth.
Plant hyacinth bulbs in the fall, 6 inches deep and 4 to 6 inches apart in well-drained soil. Your Dutch-sourced Gipsy hyacinth mixture will thrive in clay, loamy or sandy soils in Zones 4 to 8. They do well in partial shade to full sun. Long-lasting as well as lovely, they may be grown indoors in containers as well as outdoors.
The Gipsy hyacinth mixture is lovely planted in masses along with other spring flowers or alone in its own colourful display. Hyacinths also look striking planted in rows along a fence line or walkway, or standing against a building. This is truly a classic spring flower. For captivating fragrance and delicate beauty, this simple, stylish mix is unparalleled. Make it part of your tasteful early spring display.
