For each offer ordered, get 12Get your extinguisher ready, because the Fire King Crocosmia is going to set your landscape ablaze with its fiery orange and red blossoms. Budding out in bright, flame-kissed orange, the blossoms mature to a scarlet red, creating a fireworks display in your garden. A cascade of tubular flowers adorns each gently arched stem, surrounded by sword shaped medium to olive green foliage. This lovely foliage makes an attractive border or filler before the crocosmia flowers, and enhances the brightness of the blooms.
An early to midsummer bloomer, crocosmia bulbs should be planted in the early spring after the last chance of frost. These low maintenance beauties are tolerant of well drained clay, sandy or loamy soil. Plant your crocosmia bulbs about 5 inches deep and space them 4 to 6 inches apart for best results. We recommend adding a teaspoon or so of bonemeal to your hole when planting. Crocosmia flowers prefer full to partial sun. After the flowering season, remove the scapes to prevent seeding.
Reaching up to two feet in height, the Fire King crocosmia makes a gorgeous border plant or backdrop for a bed of lower growing flowers. Fill in bare areas around shrubs or along foundations with these firecrackers to brighten up the space. Attract hummingbirds, butterflies, and compliments with your gorgeous crocosmia flowers.
