Sedum (7)

Sedums are garden workhorses! Early in the season their succulent variegated leaves paint borders and beds in a variety of hues. As summer days grow shorter and other flowers begin to fade, their shapely buds open, producing waves of dense flower clusters in a multitude of shades, including pink, orange, white, lavender and red. Some varieties even add winter interest, producing long-lasting seed heads and evergreen foliage.

Low-growing sedums are an excellent plant for borders, rock gardens and containers. Their hardy, drought-resistant nature makes them the ideal choice for dry spots in the garden. Mix taller varieties with other summer perennials and bulbs for late-season colour. These midsummer to frost bloomers are a good late source of nectar; plant them en masse to attract butterflies and bees. Tall sedum flowers can be used in fresh and dried arrangements, so add a few to your cutting garden.

Rugged sedums are a welcome addition to any garden. Their variegated leaves create a muted backdrop of deep green, burgundy, silver and other colours for summer bulbs and annual flowers. Plant massed sedums as a unique ground cover in dry or rocky locations and watch them thrive. Or, place a few containers of these hardy plants on your patio or deck and enjoy their interesting foliage and late colours while you relax. Stave off the end of the growing season with a variety of beautiful sedums.

The perfect solution for sunny slopes and dry or rocky borders Creeping sedums, also known as stonecrops, create solid mats of foliage that spread quickly to cover the landscape and control weeds and erosion. And the best part is they ask for so little in return! Just plant your sedums in a sunny spot and watch them take off! Lovely in containers, sedum foliage will cascade over your favourite pots. Or plant them in the fronts of borders to hold year-round interest before and after shorter-lived bulbs and perennials have finished blooming. Low-growing, low-maintenance sedums are perfect plants for those who don't have a lot of time to tend to their garden. Not only do they suppress weeds, but they continue to thrive even when neglected! Sedums love the sun and are extremely drought tolerant. They are not fussy about soil, but do require adequate drainage. Sedums are not bothered by disease, are rabbit resistant, and their late-summer blooms attract butterflies. You'll be amazed at how well your sedums will fit in and fill in areas you thought would never have colour. In fact, here are just a few places to try your easy-care creeping sedums: • Rock Gardens • Hillsides • Borders • Containers • Retaining Walls • Pathway Crevices The Creeping Sedum Collection provide trouble-free colour and texture for even the most troublesome, drought-prone areas of your landscape.
